What a Korean Head Spa Actually Is

A Korean Head Spa is a professional scalp treatment, not just a relaxing wash. Its purpose is to remove the product buildup and sebum that collect on the scalp over time. When shampoos, conditioners, dry shampoos, and styling products sit on the skin, they become occlusive. They form a layer the scalp cannot clear on its own, the follicle stops breathing and working normally, and over time that weakens the follicle and the hair growing out of it.

Regular shampooing does not remove that layer. It cleans the surface and leaves the rest. A Korean Head Spa is the step that clears it, using carbonic acid, steam, and a clay cleanser, and then rebalances the scalp so it can regulate itself again. You leave relaxed, yes, but the point of the service is the result underneath.

We are cosmetologists. Everything in this treatment is chosen because it does something to the hair and scalp. There are no rose petals, no water poured over your face, no steps added because they look good in a video. Every step is intentional, and every step has a reason we can explain to you while it is happening.

The Experience, Step by Step

ONE

The Consultation and Scalp Check

Before anything, we look at your scalp and talk through what you are dealing with, buildup, dryness, oiliness, or sensitivity, so the treatment is matched to you.

TWO

Carbonic Acid and Steam

Our Dohi-Spa Plus carbonic acid waterfall runs through your scalp and hair for ten to fifteen minutes while the Airapha Himitsu steamer works alongside it. The steam breaks down sebum while the carbonic acid lifts the buildup, and we cleanse the hair as it releases.

THREE

The Clay Cleanser

A clay cleanser is applied and left to sit on the scalp for five minutes. This is the step that pulls out whatever product buildup and sebum are still holding on after the carbonic acid, and it is the step most treatments skip.

FOUR

The Deep Conditioning Infusion

Now the Himitsu steamer does its second job. With a targeted deep conditioning treatment applied, the fine steam carries those nutrients into the hair cortex rather than leaving them sitting on the surface.

FIVE

The Scalp Massage

Reclined in our Airapha Dohi Bed, the South Korean spa chair built for this exact service, you get a full scalp massage that stimulates circulation and helps everything absorb.

SIX

The Mist and Scalp Finish

To finish, our mist machine delivers a tonic blended with essential oils that promote hydration and restore balance. Then we apply a targeted serum, either to hydrate a dry scalp or to rebalance an oily one, so your scalp leaves in its healthiest state.

Who It Is For

The Korean Head Spa suits most people, but it suits some people especially well. If you wash with hot water, this is likely your service. Hot water strips the scalp of its own essential oils, and the scalp responds by overproducing or drying out. That swing between oily and dry is what most people are actually trying to fix, and it is what this treatment regulates.

It is also the right first step if you are considering Hair Restoration MicroChanneling with Paulina at PolyDerm Tampa Aesthetics. A clean, balanced, healthy scalp is the best foundation for that treatment, and starting there makes everything after it work better.

If you have dermatitis, psoriasis, or any skin condition on the scalp, book a consultation first and send us photos before you book the service. We are happy to look. We are simply not comfortable working over open wounds, and it is better to know before you are in the chair.

The Treatment Is the Help, Not the Solution

This is the part we want you to leave with. A Korean Head Spa does not permanently fix a scalp. It clears what has accumulated and gives your scalp a clean starting point. The actual solution is what you do at home between visits, and if that does not change, the buildup comes right back.

What we ask of you is simple. Use a shampoo that does not strip the scalp of its oils. Rinse with cool water rather than hot. Blow dry your hair rather than leaving the scalp damp. And when you condition, leave it on for three minutes so it actually works.

Follow that and you stay regulated, and a Korean Head Spa every six weeks is enough to maintain it. If your scalp builds up quickly, we would see you closer to once a month until it settles. We will tell you which one you are during your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a regular scalp treatment or shampoo?

There is a misconception spreading right now. A lot of pop-up places are offering a Korean Head Spa that is really just warm water and relaxation, no carbonic acid, no real treatment. It feels nice in the moment, but it leaves you asking what you actually got out of it, because the answer is nothing lasting. Ours is different. We use a genuine South Korean carbonic acid waterfall and steam to truly break down the sebum and buildup on your scalp, a clay cleanser to clear what is left, a targeted conditioning step, and a tonic mist and serum to rebalance you. You get the relaxation, and you also leave with a visibly healthier scalp and a real result.

Separately, every appointment at Hóla starts with our Shampoo Experience, which is included with any service where we wash your hair. It is not a separate service, it is a step inside every one of them.

How often should I get a Korean Head Spa?

It depends on how quickly you build up. If you are following the home routine we give you, every six weeks keeps your scalp regulated. If your scalp is oily or occlusive quickly, usually from washing with hot water, once a month is closer to right until things settle. We will tell you which one applies to you after we look at your scalp.

Is it good for hair loss or thinning?

It helps the environment the hair grows from, and that matters. Buildup that suffocates the follicle weakens the hair coming out of it, so clearing it gives your hair a better chance. It is not a hair loss treatment on its own, and we will not tell you it is. If thinning is your main concern, this is the preparation step, and Hair Restoration MicroChanneling with Paulina at PolyDerm Tampa Aesthetics is the treatment aimed directly at it.

Can I get it with my regular hair appointment?

Yes, and it works beautifully after a women's haircut or after a facial. Just book it as its own service alongside your appointment so the time is there, since the treatment takes a full sixty minutes on its own.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

No. Come with your hair as it normally is. Do not wash it beforehand trying to arrive clean, we would rather see your scalp the way it actually lives, because that is what tells us what it needs.

Can I get it if I have dermatitis or another scalp condition?

Send us photos of your scalp and book a consultation first. Many conditions are fine and the treatment can help. What we cannot work over is an open wound or an active flare, and that is a call we would rather make before your appointment than during it.

Does it include a blow dry?

Only if you book the version that includes it. The 60 minute service at $130 finishes at the scalp. The 105 minute service at $180 includes a full blow dry and style finish.

Will it leave my hair greasy or dried out?

Neither. That is the point of the last two steps. After the buildup is cleared we put nutrients back with a conditioning treatment under steam, then finish with a tonic mist and a serum chosen for whether your scalp runs dry or oily. Your scalp leaves balanced, not stripped.

What should I do at home afterward?

Use a shampoo that does not strip your scalp of its oils, rinse with cool water instead of hot, blow dry rather than leaving your scalp damp, and leave your conditioner on for three minutes. That routine is what keeps your scalp regulated between visits, and it matters more than how often you come see us.
