SCALP MICRONEEDLING FOR HAIR RESTORATION IN TAMPA

Scalp treatment for thinning hair, performed by Paulina, a licensed facial specialist and licensed electrologist, inside our South Tampa studio. Five minutes from MacDill Air Force Base.

Her name is Paulina.

PolyDerm Tampa Aesthetics is her own practice, with its own booking, its own protocols, and its own licensing. It operates inside Hóla Hair Studio because the philosophy matches: nothing rushed, every step explained, health before appearance.

Paulina is a licensed facial specialist and a licensed electrologist in the state of Florida. Her hair restoration work happens at our stations, so a client can be cut and prepped by Gian and treated by Paulina in the same visit.

What MicroChanneling Is

MicroChanneling creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin with a controlled, sterile device. Those channels do two things: they signal the body to begin its own repair response in the treated area, and they open a path for treatment serum to reach below the surface instead of sitting on top of it.

Paulina performs this using ProCell's MicroChanneling device and growth factor serum, a standardized lab formulation. Standardized matters here. Every session delivers the same concentration of the same actives, so a client's fifth session is as strong as the first and results are repeatable rather than variable.

The same method works on the face and on the scalp. On the scalp, the target is the follicle. The area is cleansed before treatment, and the serum is applied during and immediately after channeling, while the channels are open.

How This Compares to PRP

If you've researched PRP for hair growth, you've already learned the goal: deliver concentrated growth factors to the scalp to stimulate the follicle. PRP draws those growth factors from your own blood, and the results vary from person to person and session to session, since growth factor levels depend on your body that day and how the blood is centrifuged. Paulina's protocol uses ProCell's growth factor serum, a standardized lab formulation, so every client gets the same concentration every time, without a blood draw. Same objective, more consistent delivery.

Who Is This Treatment For

Scalp microneedling is for people with thinning hair where the follicle is still alive. It works on early to moderate thinning, tension-related loss, postpartum shedding, diffuse thinning at the crown or part line, and thinning that follows illness, stress, or a change in medication.

It is not a transplant and it does not create hair where the follicle is gone. Paulina will tell you during the consultation which category you are in, including when the honest answer is that this is not the right treatment for you.

Traction Alopecia and Regulation Hairstyles

A large share of the thinning we see in this studio is traction alopecia: hair loss caused by tension, not by genetics or illness. Tight ponytails, buns worn in the same place daily, braids, and extensions all pull on the follicle from the same angle for years.

We are five minutes from MacDill Air Force Base. Regulation hairstyles keep hair pulled back tightly, in the same position, every duty day. Over time that pattern shows up at the hairline and temples first. Most of the women we treat for it did not know it had a name, and did not know it responds to treatment when the follicle is still viable.

If tension is the cause, the treatment plan includes changing the styling pattern. Otherwise you are treating the scalp while the cause continues.

When Paulina Will Not Treat

Some conditions rule out treatment, either permanently or until they're resolved:

  • Active scalp infection

  • Open wounds or active lesions on the scalp

  • Scarring alopecia

  • History of keloid scarring

  • Cancer, active cancer treatment, or suspicious lesions

  • Pregnancy

  • Blood thinners

  • Uncontrolled autoimmune conditions

  • Uncontrolled diabetes

  • Isotretinoin use during treatment

Conditions like eczema or other inflammatory scalp issues aren't an automatic no, they're usually a pause until the flare resolves.

The Consultation Comes First

No one is treated without a consultation. Hair loss has many causes and several of them are not scalp problems at all. Paulina works through the full picture before recommending anything:

  • When the thinning started, and the pattern it follows

  • How much you are shedding, and for how long

  • Family history of hair loss

  • Recent illness, surgery, postpartum period, or major life change

  • Diagnosed conditions such as thyroid disorders, PCOS, or anemia

  • Current medications and supplements

  • Scalp symptoms: itching, flaking, tenderness, oiliness

  • Tension styling history, including extensions, tight ponytails, braids, and regulation hairstyles

  • Treatments already tried, and what happened

  • Stress levels and nutrition

  • Your goals, and whether a series fits your schedule and budget right now

If the intake points to something medical, the recommendation is to see a physician first. Treating the scalp while an underlying condition is untreated wastes your money.

The Session and the Series

Each session runs about 120 minutes. Paulina cleanses the scalp, creates the microchanneling pattern across the treatment area, and applies the growth-factor serum so it can absorb while the channels are open. You'll get aftercare instructions to follow for 48 hours, mainly around keeping the scalp clean and avoiding products that could irritate freshly channeled skin.

Sessions are spaced about two to three weeks apart. The minimum recommended series is five sessions, which is what the hair growth cycle needs to begin responding. After the series, Paulina reassesses your scalp and growth, and recommends whether to continue with another series, individual sessions, or move to maintenance every three to six months.

Results build gradually. You won't see a dramatic change after one session. Growth typically continues developing for three to six months after the series ends, as the hair cycle catches up to the stimulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as microneedling?

It's related, but not exactly the same. Both create controlled channels in the skin, but Paulina's ProCell device stays steady rather than moving up and down like a traditional microneedling pen, which creates a cleaner channel. The tip, the technique, and the serum are all part of what makes MicroChanneling its own method.

Is this PRP?

No. PRP uses your own blood, spun down to isolate growth factors, so results vary depending on your body that day and how the blood is centrifuged. This treatment uses a lab-made growth factor serum instead, so every session delivers the same concentration, with no blood draw.

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe mild pressure or a light scratching sensation, not significant pain. Paulina will walk you through what to expect before starting.

How many sessions do I need?

The minimum recommended series is five sessions spaced about two to three weeks apart. After that, Paulina reassesses and recommends whether you continue with another series, individual sessions, or move to maintenance.

When will I see results?

Results build gradually and continue developing for three to six months after the series ends. This isn't a treatment with immediate, dramatic change.

Will this help with thinning from tight ponytails or braids?

Often, yes, if the follicle is still alive. But if the tension pattern continues, whether it's the same ponytail, braids, or extensions, the thinning can come back. Treatment works best paired with a change in styling tension.

Is this a hair transplant?

No. It works with existing follicles that are still alive. It doesn't create new follicles or move hair from one area to another.

Who performs the treatment?

Paulina, a licensed facial specialist and licensed electrologist in Florida, performs every session herself.

What if I can't make it back in exactly two weeks?

Two to three weeks between sessions is fine. You don't need to start over, but waiting longer does slow down how quickly the follicle responds, so staying close to that window gets you the most consistent results.

More Than Scalp

PolyDerm is also Paulina's facial practice. Every treatment is built around what the skin actually needs, whether the focus is acne, congestion, sensitivity, texture, pigmentation, barrier support, or simply maintaining healthy skin.

For clients looking for a more advanced treatment, Paulina also performs ProCell Microchanneling for the face, using controlled microchannels to support skin renewal and improve the appearance of texture, tone, and overall skin quality.

Her menu also includes customized facials, professional peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, and acne-focused treatments.

One Visit, Both Brands

Some clients use both sides of the studio in one trip. One of our regulars comes in every two weeks for a haircut with Gian and a treatment with Paulina, back to back, in the same visit.

Hóla and PolyDerm are separate businesses, but sharing the same space makes it easy to coordinate services when it makes sense. Book what you need, and we'll help you plan the timing.
